2-XL asks the listener questions. The listener chooses his or her answer by pressing one of four buttons on 2-XL's chest. 2-XL then gives the answer and praises the listener with encouragement or a joke or tells the listener he or she is wrong. It was an award winning educational toy.

It was an ugly but cute 12-inch tall robot that played specially-recorded 8-track tapes.
Each tape contained an educational subject and the "voice" of 2-XL.

2-XL was produced by Mego Corporation in New York from 1978-1981. Mego Corporation folded in 1981 and ended the production of 2-XL. 2-XL was redeveloped and reintroduced by Tiger Electronics in Vernon Hills, Illinois in 1992 with a new cassette format. This is an original from Mego.

2-XL teaches in a way that was entertaining for both children and adults. 2-XL could ask questions, tell jokes, play games and puzzles, and even had an interactive game called "Tri-Lex," which was a cross between checkers and tic-tac-toe.

He was not only educational and entertaining, but he was friendly too, and played some pretty cool music (although his singing, by his own confession, was pretty bad).
Price:£ 49.99

Their size and rarity have earned them the nickname 'The Gang of Five'. It was a gang of four for many years - a reference to the Chinese political intrigue following Chairman Mao's death.

The original Radicon Robot was the first and most unusual of the Gang of 5 'skirted' group and was the first wireless remote control robot which was featured in "Popular Mechanics Magazine" the Christmas of 1958. This was easily the first radio controlled robot ever. This wind-up toy is a miniature tin version of that robot.

This Mini Radicon Robot is an official Masudaya factory reissue and a very attractive miniature wind-up reproduction toy of the famous 'skirt' robots.

Some of the original gang have recently been auctioned off for thousands of dollars. These robots are excellent collector pieces, get yours now while they are affordable. Why not collect them all!

In the 1990s Machine Man surfaced, making five, and 'spoiling' the connection.

As representative of its gang, Machine Man has a fire-engine red metal body, machine-pressed grooves and ridges, and plastic swing-arms complete with faux rivets and pincer-claws. It is stable and sturdy, and its mileage is about three feet per wind-up.

Machine Man's effortless, admirable glide is appropriately accompanied by quite a bit of gear-grinding buzz. Lavender Robot's body has, as the nickname suggests, a stunning lavender colouring with copious inset panels carrying abstract cubist inspired lithographed machinery detailing. This machinery looks more like a modernist painting rather than something that might actually work. Masudaya have even gone to the trouble of cutting out sections of the shoulders and sides, and fastening the litho panels back in place.

Lavender is wound through the build-in 'key'" on the side, but the sophisticated look of the robot more than compensates. Lavender comes in its very ornate, colorful box which is collectable in its own right.
