In the 1950s Masudaya began production of a distinctive line of skirted robots. Their size and rarity have earned them the nickname 'The Gang of Five'. It was a gang of four for many years - a reference to the Chinese political intrigue following Chairman Mao's death.

The original Radicon Robot was the first and most unusual of the Gang of 5 'skirted' group and was the first wireless remote control robot which was featured in "Popular Mechanics Magazine" the Christmas of 1958. This was easily the first radio controlled robot ever. This wind-up toy is a miniature tin version of that robot.
